Herbie Hancock first connected with Wayne Shorter in 1962 at a Donald Byrd recording session. Soon after, Miles Davis hired them both to play in his Second Great Quintet and from then on, they formed a bond so deep and so personal it could always be heard in the music—and in the way they talked about their friendship off the stage. With special guests at his side, Herbie pays tribute to the man who not only inspired him to new heights as a musician, but who became his best friend in the process.
