Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and Los Angeles LGBT Center co-present “Freeways – LACO Fellows Concert,” a musical evening with community spirit featuring Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Creative Partner Lara Downes and the LACO Fellows, including Nicholas Valencia, viola; Matthew Peralta, bass; Alejandro Lombo, flute; and Eder Rivera, oboe, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, 8pm, at the Renberg Theater at Los Angeles LGBT Center’s The Village at Ed Gould Plaza. This inspiring event aims to foster new connections and bring music into intimate and accessible spaces around Los Angeles.
Freeways is the featured chamber music concert for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Fellowship - a two-year program that engages members of historically underrepresented groups in western classical music ensembles with performance and professional development opportunities.
Renberg Theater at Los Angeles LGBT Center’s The Village at Ed Gould Plaza is located at 1125 N. McCadden Pl. Los Angeles, CA 90038. For information and tickets (starting at $15, including fees) please visit https://www.laco.org/events/freeways-2425/ or call 213 221 3920.
About the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Fellowship
Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Fellowship offers a range of practical, in-the-field experience designed to increase the diversity of American orchestras, by providing the Fellows with critical professional development opportunities as well as work for hire, enabling them to perform in a professional setting alongside LACO’s leading professional musicians during the orchestra’s concert season. Established in 2017, the Fellowship was developed to address the fact that less than 5% of America's orchestra workforce is African American, Hispanic or Native American, according to a recent report on diversity issued by the League of American Orchestras.
The Fellowship includes several weeks of work with LACO consisting of orchestral rehearsals and performances, chamber music coaching and concerts, a recital, mock auditions, and teaching artist opportunities.
Los Angeles Orchestra Fellowship also provides unprecedented support to prepare participants to win auditions in professional American orchestras, including financial support for participating musicians to take auditions and accept work with other orchestras.
