“...It was only a matter of some years. And the many things that happened in those years made them feel as if they have passaged through the cycle of life experiencing all the pain and bliss.” – Eileen Chang
Millions of people cross paths every day but not everyone find intimate connections. In the vast ocean of time, seven men and women meet, their lives intertwined by the threads of fate. Caught up in relationship entanglements, their search for lost love and happiness bears the bittersweet reality of life and the trail of regrets left behind.
Adapted from one of Eileen Chang’s novel of the same title, Eighteen Springs is a heart-wrenching tale of tragedy and ill-fated romance. Set in 1930’s Shanghai, the story follows the lives of seven people over a span of 10 years, as they find each other; fall in love; fall out of love; and lose love.
Director Mathias Woo and co-scriptwriter Jimmy Ngai collaborates in this production, with music composed by Yu Yat-yiu of People’s Mountain People’s Sea, giving Chang’s classic a new treatment.
