Doug, a blue-collar worker at a family owed construction company is charged with training Paul, the boss’s secretive, college bound son, during the course of a summer renovation project. Their exchanges begin with Doug’s bawdy advice that is comically at odds with Paul’s shy nature. But soon it becomes apparent that Paul is struggling with something far beyond Doug’s purview and experience. This new play is about identity, truth, and the courage it takes to break things apart in order to become your own kind of hero.
“Laugh-out-loud funny. Entertaining, touching, and deftly told. Demolition’s world-building is rich … the kind of vibrant, full-bodied, fresh-voice new work you don't want to miss. Told with wildly abundant, delicious humor. Performances … are truly peerless, superb” - Broadway World
“Most boys become men by watching and listening to other men,” says playwright Matthew Letscher. “Fathers, teachers, coaches, athletes, etc. How do we sort the toxic from the essential? We get lucky. The right person comes along at the right time to help us. Sometimes at birth, sometimes later in life. Really fortunate boys have many role models to give them context and to guide them. Many are desperately lacking. All of us carry scars of the different depths from the process. There is a lot I don’t know about manhood, masculinity or gender norms. But I do know that boys (indeed, all humans) often make our most important choices based on what the men in our lives demonstrate. And these choices can define us for life - if we let them.”
“Divinely enjoyable from the very start. Brilliant lines combined with great actors and a skillful director (Max Mayer) produces nothing short of excellence. There is no dull moment throughout this production. Perfectly cast” - Discover Hollywood
