he Chinese literary classic Dream of the Red Chamber receives a modern theatre adaptation by acclaimed director Edward Lam in Awakening. This powerful re-envisioning features an all-female cast, with celebrated Cantopop singer and actress Denise Ho, taking the final chapter of the classic tale as its starting point.

Having left the mortal world, Jia Baoyu returns to the land of illusions with all his memories lost. Desperate to remember his life, he is allowed to return to the world of the living where his life of love plays out again. His memories gradually return, but he is unable to change anything and can only watch as tragedies unfold before him again and again, leaving him and his loves to the unforgiving hands of fate. Slowly, he begins to understand why he seeks to remember.

Since its premiere in Hong Kong in 2011, Awakening has toured with sold-out stopovers in many cities in Asia and received positive reviews, with Denise Ho's performance moving many.
