Adoration makes its West Coast premiere at LA Opera, featuring GRAMMY-nominated tenor Roy Hage in his debut role as Sami. Composed by Mary Kouyoumdjian with a libretto by Royce Vavrek, the opera explores identity, inherited trauma, and cultural bias, drawing inspiration from Atom Egoyan's 2008 film. The cast also includes Omar Najmi, Miriam Khalil, Naomi Louisa O’Connell, David Adam Moore, and James Demler, under the direction of Laine Rettmer and conducted by Alan Pierson. The production resonates with the local Lebanese and Arab community, highlighting LA Opera's commitment to presenting socially relevant new works.
