Since 2016, “A Light in Dark Places: plays for hope” (ALIDP) has brought original short plays to the stage that challenge taboos and open up channels for hope and healing for people whose lives have been affected by suicide. The show returns for its ninth year from Friday, September 27th through Sunday October 6th at the Stella Adler Academy of Acting and Theatre in Hollywood. ALIDP 2024 features five original short plays that mix comedy and drama to provoke healthy discussion about mental health and depression, inform about suicide prevention resources, and remind people that there is always someone there to listen and help.
“Each day, we lose about 135 Americans to suicide,” said Kelly O'Malley, producer and director of ALIDP and founder of the non-profit A Light in Dark Places. “It absolutely does not have to be that way. ALIDP aims to create a safer community where people feel comfortable asking for help, and we leverage the power of the performing arts to do it. Our show makes it easier to talk about mental illness and feelings of hopelessness – something that can ultimately save lives.”
Stella Adler Academy of Acting and Theatre is at 6773 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, CA.
