THE CLOWN SCHOOL COMPANY ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL PRODUCTION A KIND OF ELECTRA
Los Angeles based The Clown School launches its new performing arm.
The Clown School, the renowned LA based organization devoted to exploring and promoting the practice of clowning, has announced the formation of The Clown School Company, a performing arm of the School, offering inventive contemporary theater informed by physical theater practices. The Company’s first production is A Kind of Electra, based on the Greek tragedy by Euripides. Performances take place at The Stomping Ground in El Sereno, Los Angeles, November 2-8.
A Kind of Electra features actors Caitlin Stasey, Hayden Ezzy, and Tiffany Elle. The production is directed by David Bridel, assisted by Arrow Schulman, produced by Sarah Painter, with Sound Design by Taubert Nadalini, Costume Design and Movement by Jesse Pilkes, and Lighting Design by Camille Roberts. Using Euripides’ Electra as a foundation, this brand new theater piece has been developed through improvisations with the cast, and exposes the drama, the comedy and the horror at the heart of the original tale.
“Electra is a fascinating character,” notes director (and Artistic Director of The Clown School) David Bridel. “Her anger and her anguish drive her to unspeakable actions. But she is vulnerable and full of sorrow, too. We are excited to share our vision of her story with a modern audience.”
