Award winning theatre director and veteran TV writer/producer, Stan Zimmerman, has been set to direct the World Premiere of Paul Shoulberg's play "Synthesis". The four character ensemble piece will have a limited run of 12 performances. The show previews Friday January 6, 2017 and opens Saturday January 7 at The Dorie Theatre, which is part of The Complex on Hollywood's famed Theatre Row. The Dorie is located at 6467 Santa Monica Blvd, LA, CA 90038. Fridays and Saturdays @8pm, Sundays @5pm. Running time is 75 minutes. Paul Shoulberg wrote and directed the film, "The Good Catholic", starring Danny Glover and John C. McGinley. It's set to be released in mid 2017. Paul also wrote the movie "Walter", featuring Academy Award nominated actors William H. Macy and Virginia Madsen, as well as Justin Kirk, Neve Cambell, and Jim Gaffigan. In 2006, his play "Reel" won the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for best student comedy. Paul is a 2007 graduate of the MFA playwriting program at Indiana University and earned his BA in Theatre and Film from the University of Kansas in 2004.
Stan Zimmerman has written for such classic t.v. series as "The Golden Girls", "Roseanne" and "Gilmore Girls". He's received two WGA nominations for Best Episodic Comedy Writing for the first two series. He also worked on both "Brady Bunch" movies. In theatre, Stan has directed "Gemini" (Celebration Theatre), "Spike Heels" (Actors Circle), "A Tuna Christmas" (Theatre Asylum), "Blink & You Might Miss Me" (Theatre Asylum), "Daughter Of" (3 Clubs), "Warm Cheese" (Studio C Artists) and "Entertaining Mr. Sloane" (Actors Company). He directed and wrote "Meet & Greet" (Elephant Theatre) and "Suicide Notes: In Their Own Words" (Theatre Asylum). Recently Stan directed and co-wrote "Secs & Execs" a six part webseries coming to Tellofilms.com March 2017.
"Synthesis" is a new comedy/drama about Shay, a recovering heroin addict obsessed with growing plants, is pretty certain she has inadvertently thwarted the second coming of Christ. With the help of Lana, her newfound therapist, Ready, her boyfriend whom she met in rehab, and James, an alcoholic professor with a taste for erotic fiction, Shay must figure out not only the ramifications of her past mistakes, but also determine her ultimate purpose on the planet. The cast includes Anne Kathryn Parma ("High School Musical", Twinkie Byrd's 2016 Hollywood Slam winner), Michael Minto ("Murder in the First"), Clayton Farris ("Scream Queens"), Maahra Hill ("Jane the Virgin").
