Winter @ The Wallis Returns In 2018 With 18 Great Dance, Music & Theater Events

The 2017/18 season of world-class dance, music and theater continues as the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (The Wallis) presents its third annual Winter @ The Wallis series. This year, Winter @ The Wallis programming grows to eighteen events to be performed in the Bram Goldsmith Theater and the intimate Lovelace Studio Theater, beginning on Saturday, January 6 with the classical music duo, violinist Sarah Chang and pianist Julio Elizalde. Other highlights include: The Wallis debut of the L.A.-based dance company Lula Washington Dance Theatre; a weekend celebrating the great jazz legend Arturo Sandoval along with other local jazz artists; the modern music collective wild Up under the baton of founder Christopher Rountree; the return of the innovative United Kingdom-based theater company Kneehigh with The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk; and the world premiere of Tom Dugan's Jackie Unveiled.

"The Wallis is here to present dance, theatre and music events that surprise, entertain and inspire," said the organization's Artistic Director Paul Crewes. "This winter, we invite our audiences to enjoy these world-class performances and stay afterwards to socialize with our artists in our bar."

Lula Washington DANCE THEATRE
January 11 - 13, 2018 | Bram Goldsmith Theater
Los Angeles-based company Lula Washington Dance Theatre celebrates the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by offering Wallis audiences three different programs of dance over the holiday weekend. Not to be missed, all programs are performed with Marcus L. Miller and his Freedom Jazz Movement. Singles tickets are available from $45 - $125.

DANCE SUNDAYS with Debbie Allen & FRIENDS
In addition to its mainstage programming, The Wallis continues to offer Dance Sundays with Debbie Allen & Friends, a series of free outdoor dance events happening every second Sunday of the month. Dance Sundays, led by Emmy Award-winning choreographer/director Debbie Allen and other instructors from the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, have proved wildly popular for the whole family to enjoy as they learn how to dance. Winter @ The Wallis sessions include: Flamenco on January 14; Salsa Sunday on February 11; and Tango on the Terrace on March 11. All sessions from 12pm - 2pm. Free event!

WINTER @ THE WALLIS MUSIC PROGRAMMING:
This season, Preludes @ The Wallis will return to enhance the audience experience providing a free pre-concert conversation with artists and special guests one hour prior to each Music @ The Wallis classical music performance. Classical KUSC's Brian Lauritzen will discuss each program on the Bram Goldsmith Theater stage allowing attendees a deeper dive into the evening's music while offering a complimentary glass of wine courtesy of The Henry Wine Group.

wild Up, under the direction of conductor Christopher Rountree, is an adventurous Los Angeles-based chamber orchestra committed to creating visceral, thought-provoking musical happenings. A high-energy, musical sketch comedy show performed at standing microphones in the Lovelace Studio Theater that is equal parts Monty Python, Schoolhouse Rock and A Prairie Home Companion.
