The Willows Theatre Company announces its 34th season with six mainstage productions running August 24, 2009 through May 30, 2010 at the Willows Theatre, 1975 Diamond Boulevard in Concord, CA. The 2009-2010 season includes Chicago, Barefoot in the Park, Little Me, Sleuth, Grease, and the return of the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award Winner, the musical Brimstone.
Aug. 24 - Sept. 27, 2009 - Chicago
From Kander & Ebb, the composing team that brought you Cabaret, comes this wonderfully satirical musical about corruption, fame, and justice set against the backdrop of the jazz age in the Windy City. Follow ambitious show girl Roxie Hart as she climbs her way to stardom - all she had to do was kill a guy! Features unforgettable hits like "All That Jazz" and "Cell Block Tango."
Oct. 12 - Nov. 8, 2009 - Barefoot in the Park
When a newly minted, uptight lawyer marries a free-spirited dreamer, what could possibly go wrong? Just about everything in one of
Neil Simon's most popular comedies. The Willows mines the rich treasure of the author of The Odd Couple and Brighton Beach Memoirs.
Nov. 30 - Dec. 27, 2009 - Little Me
Little Me is the autobiography of the unfailingly optimistic, albeit accident-prone, celebrity Belle Poitrine. Her story takes her from the wrong side of the tracks into the arms of the man of her dreams, with lots of hilarious situations and zany characters along the way. The show was a Broadway triumph for
Sid Caesar and
Edie Adams and reunited Caesar with his former head writer,
Neil Simon. Book by Simon and music by
Cy Coleman.
Jan. 25 - Feb. 21, 2010 - Brimstone
Given its West Coast premiere by the Willows in 1998, Brimstone won five Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards! It's Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Eamon Dunne is finally coming home for his brother's funeral after eight years in America. But nothing in his homeland is as it seems and the girl he thought he'd lost is suddenly back in his life, threatening to drag him back into the violence and deception he'd thought he'd left behind. An epic romance set against the tumultuous backdrop of Northern Ireland, this musical by
Mary Bracken Phillips and Patrick Meegan won the hearts of critics and audiences alike.
Mar. 15 - April 11, 2010 - Sleuth
Andrew Wyke, an immensely successful mystery writer, is obsessed with games, intrigue, and deception. But when he lures his wife's lover to his home under false pretenses, a larger game of deception begins. Audiences find themselves trying to figure out where the game ends and reality begins.
Anthony Shaffer's Sleuth won a Tony award for best play and spawned several film remakes - but the Willows shows how the original is still the best!
Apr. 26 - May 30, 2010 - Grease
Join Danny, Sandy, and the whole gang at Rydell High in this lively and exciting musical that recalls nights at the drive-in and the sock-hop. Follow Danny, the popular greaser, and Sandy, the wide-eyed new girl in town, as they search for love and happiness in 1950's America. This modern classic by
Jim Jacobs and
Warren Casey is designed to make audiences stand up and cheer!
