Westside Center for Independent Associates Hosts Fundraising Theatre Event Attended by 100 Guests

Robin Hargrove, Resource Development Director of the 33-year-old Westside Center for Independent Living (WCIL), said the Associates Steering Committee, chaired by Suzie Levin, hosted a very successful Theatre Event as this year's 2009 major fundraising social attended by 100 guests. Hargrove added, "After enjoying delectable Hors d'oeuvres prepared by Freddy Kernbach, Food and Beverage Manager, and his staff, at the Beverly Hills Tennis Club, private chartered busses transported guests to the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood on Thursday evening, August 13, 2009 for the Final Preview performance, prior to the Opening Night Gala, for the critically acclaimed touring production of the Broadway show, ‘Legally Blonde, The Musical.'

Hostesses for the event included: Betty Underwood Deutsch, Louise Escoe, Majorie Fasman, Barbara Gordon (President of the WCIL Board of Directors), Lola Jameson, Trudy Kallis, Jean Katz, Ruth Kraft, Ruth March, Marcia Solomon, Dascha Auerbach Stuart, Ruth Tober and Phyllis Wiseman. Other members of the WCIL Associates Steering Committee who were not able to be in attendance include: Suzie Levin (Chair), Bernice Blackman and Dorothy Straus. Aliza Barzilay, Executive Director of WCIL, was also unable to be in attendance, as she was attending a committee event in Sacramento, CA, which Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed her to serve upon.

Major event donors included: Helen Bing, Cosette and Ethan Case, Betty Underwood Deutsch, Three Sisters Foundation, Marjorie Fasman, Robert and Diana Friedman, Miriam Groman, Ruth Kraft, Ruth March and Paul Soll - SRM Securities.

Aside from the Hostesses and Major Donors, others among the 100 guests in attendance included: Trini and Ricardo Abellan, Alexis Deutsch Adler, Cristina and Tom Allen, VickI Baker, Marsha and Harold Berger, Marlene Billington, Mary Bloomberg, Jack Gordon, Chiara and David Delaney, Brenda, Bennett and Brian Gross, Joshua Kheel, Rita and John Lear, Jean Leserman, Spencer Levin, Ed Rathje, Patricia Reiner, Julianna and Nick Roosevelt, Rosa Stolkin, Corky Hale Stoller, Mario Velasquez and Elka Weiner.

Founded in 1981 by Helen Levin, Betty Underwood Deutsch and Louise Escoe, The Associates of the Westside Center for Independent Living are a group of philanthropic community members who are dedicated to the cause of independent living for seniors and people with disabilities.
