On Saturday, January 14 on USC's Tutor Campus, Watts Village Theater Company (WVTC) will partner with LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas' Empowerment Congress Arts & Culture Committee to present "The Empowerment of Art" during the 20th Anniversary Empowerment Congress Summit. "The Empowerment of Art" includes a series of interactive performances, workshops and reflections on how the arts educate and empower our underserved communities in LA's 2nd district.

WVTC's Artistic Director, Guillermo Aviles-Rodriguez, will moderate the sessions, which will include performances by WVTC and the Los Angeles Poverty Department as well as screenings from the Wende Museum, Performing Arts for Life and Education Foundation (PALEF) and Streetlamp Studio.

Also featured during the summit will be Rev. Al Sharpton, founder of the National Action Network and host of MSNBC's PoliticsNation, as the keynote speaker and Warren Olney, Host and Executive Producer of KCRW's "Which Way, LA?" and "To The Point," as the MC, as well as Marina Elena Durazo, Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO and Hill Harper, award-winning actor best known for his portrayal of Dr. Sheldon Hawkes on CBS's CSI: NY and author of several books, including "The Wealth Cure: Putting Money in Its Place."
