A volatile young man and ex-soldier must face his demons in the award-winning 9 CIRCLES by Bill Cain. New L.A. theatre company, VAGABOND, produces while Alexis Jacknow directs the show, which runs tonight, Sept. 12 - Oct. 5 at The Sherry Theater in North Hollywood's Arts District.
Based on the true story of Iraq War soldier Steven Dale Green and the 2006 Mahmudiyah killings, 9 CIRCLES follows Private Daniel Reeves on a haunting journey while seeking redemption for crimes he committed during his time in Iraq. Green was the first to be convicted under the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act in 2009 for the rape and killing of a young Iraqi girl and her family. He committed suicide last February. "We are the first production to mount this play since Steven Dale Green committed suicide in prison this year," says Jacknow. "There is a responsibility and gravity that comes along with that that the cast and I want to honor. I hope that 9 CIRCLES will make audiences reflect on how we pass judgment on others, both in our daily lives and as citizens of this country."
The audience is the jury in Reeves' trial and, in the 36-seat Sherry Theater, they will have no choice but to witnesses an acute examination of some of the most complex issues facing our society today.Videos
