Upright Cabaret Presents One Night Stands

Fresh off of two standing room only star-studded productions in Hollywood, the Upright boys provide the perfect finale to Summer with Upright's One Night Stands.  

This September, Upright Cabaret returns to the place it all began for a festival of new generation cabaret. From a Broadway Diva to a Goddess...from a future Fashion Mogul to a Farm Girl. Shane Scheel, Chris Isaacson and Trapper Felides are thrilled to present an eclectic mix of some of the hottest talent in the country. Get up close and personal with your favorite Upright performers as they take the most intimate stage in LA and share the stories that inspire their brilliant performances.  

Upright at Mark's is more than an inventive cabaret show, proprietors Chris Diamond and Chef Wayne Elias will present Upright audiences with delicious selection of moderately priced California cuisine served by the yummiest waiters in Los Angeles....THE WORLD!

Thursday - September 6th - 9PM
Kristin Reitter IS THE GODDESS, BALLS OUT!  

Kristin Reitter christens Upright's ONE NIGHT STANDS with THE GODDESS...BALLS OUT. Follow Kristin and her crystal singing bowl up the steps of Machu Picchu to hear tales of camp, curves and spiritual education. From whoring it out with Ann-Margret to bartending at Don't Tell Mama, Kristin's rocker journey to LA is not for the faint of heart. Whether you're the spiritually seeking or kitsch-inclined, Reitter's hysterical stories supply laughs, sass, and vapid audience participation as she impersonates some of the world's famous divas (including that bitch Bernadette, who stole her career). Prepare to be inspired, to be charmed, and to laugh your balls out.

Audra Mae with SPECIAL GUEST Tracie Thoms  

Audra Mae, a dynamo soulful singer who inherited the "pipes" of the world's most famous chanteuse, Judy Garland (she's her great grandniece), will take the stage for an evening of original songs and the stories behind her music. Tracie Thoms (Grindhouse, Devil Wears Prada, Rent and Cold Case) will join Audra on stage with her own interpretation of an Audra Mae masterpiece. With gutsy original tunes like 'The Moon' and 'Fool's Gold', Oklahoma-bred Audra Mae's rich songwriting skills have taken LA by storm and have delivered a development deal with Warner Chappell. On piano, guitar or simply at the mic, her brilliantly crafted lyrics and memorable melodies defy classification. Chad Kimball is OBVIOUS  

Broadway star turned fashion entrepreneur Chad Kimball brings his Bistro Award-winning cabaret act to Upright's ONE NIGHT STANDS at Mark's Restaurant. Chosen as Entertainment Weekly's "It Boy" for his breakout role as Milky White in Broadway's INTO THE WOODS, Kimball exposes the tears and jeers of stardom. From his signature lounge version of Sondheim's 'Giants in the Sky' to stories of Broadway high-life to the high-end runways of L.A's Fashion Week, Kimball remains "irreverent, delectably funny, and full of melodies' in this udderly delightful romp".

THE BREE BRUNCH  

Bree Bruns helps wash down that Saturday night hangover with THE BREE BRUNCH. Knock back a mimosa and listen as the girl from the farmlands recounts her journey to the fast lanes of Los Angeles . Celebrating the best from her many memorable UPRIGHT Cabaret moments, this Kansas soulstress is sure start your day off right with unexpected renditions of songs by Eva Cassidy, Aretha Franklin, and Tori Amos. Small in stature but stoic in presence, Bree will send you "Over the Rainbow" with her soaring voice.  

Thursday - September 20th - 9PM
Jennifer Leigh Warren  

Critically acclaimed and award winning (Ovation, Garland Award) singer and actress Jennifer Leigh Warren has been lauded as an "original" for her theatrical work, from her show-stopping performance as the slave "Alice's Daughter" in the original Broadway cast of BIG RIVER, to originating the role of "Crystal" in the Alan Menken/Howard Ashman Off Broadway smash LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, to her performance in the original Broadway cast of Michael John LaChiusa's MARIE CHRISTINE at Lincoln Center. Jennifer was featured on the Grammy Award-nominated original cast albums of all three of these shows, and also sang "Stranger to the Rain" on the "Stephen Schwartz Album". This one of a kind diva brings her signature sass and class act to Upright's One Night Stand.  

Saturday - September 22nd - 9PM
David Burnham  

Following the release of his debut solo album, LML recording artist, David Burnham, brings an encore presentation of his sold-out Hollywood CD release party to Upright's ONE NIGHT STANDS. An original member of the Broadway cast of the 6-time Tony Award winning musical THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, Burnham has solidified his place as one of Broadway's leading men. A 2007 recipient of the prestigious "Helen Hayes Award" for best actor as well as the 2007 best actor "Garland Award" for his portrayal of Fabrizio Nacarelli in the national tour of THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, Burnham promises an evening of standards and contemporary musical theatre that is sure to make your heart throb.  

Friday - September 28th - 9PM
AN EVENING WITH Gerald Sternbach  

Legendary LA Music Director Gerald Sternbach celebrates his 50th Birthday with fellow birthday boy and Upright Producer Shane Scheel at Upright's One Night Stands. This celebrated musician (Ovation Award, Garland Award, Joel Hirschon Award) just began his 6th season as Music Director for Reprise! Broadway's Best in Concert. His accomplishments are vast but include Carrie Fisher's one-woman show, WISHFUL DRINKING, Sondheim's 75th Birthday Concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and accompanying nearly every legendary performer that makes their way to Los Angeles. On this very special evening Sternbach will helm keys as a cast of his favorite divas and divos parade the stage recounting some of their favorite "Jerry" moments.  

Sunday - September 30th - 9PM
Shoshana Bean AND JAKE SIMPSON  

He's the two-time Star Search Winner piano man who's appearance on Oprah with Stevie Wonder had America cheering. She's the singing sensation from Broadway's WICKED and HAIRSPRAY who had the crowd on their feet at the Soul Train Awards for her rendition of Aretha Franklin's 'Ain't No Way'. Together they are a tour-de-force of harmonies, whistle tones and soulful rhythm. There is no doubt that when these two unexpected voices meet for an evening of signature covers and original tunes heads will turn and hearts will stop. DISH IT OUT "WICKED" MONDAYS
