Trepany House at the Steve Allen Theater is excited to announce the first public showing of Derrick C. Brown and Amanda Rafkin's new musical 300 Bones. After selling out the initial show on August 12th, they have added another show on August 11th at 8pm, which will act as the show's first workshop concert.
Set in the offbeat town of Dooms, 300 Bones is the funny, poetic and often heartbreaking story of industry vs. nature, of love vs. solitude. Inspired by the true story of the world record holder for being struck by lightning, Ranger John Eisen is struck by lightning for the eighth time and reluctantly becomes a local celebrity. The reclusive Ranger begins to uncover a home developers conspiracy to develop the forest as he struggles to decide which is more valuable: the safety of isolation or risk chasing the need for love, community and connection.
The story is especially relevant as 300 Bones will be one of the last shows to appear at the famous Steve Allen Theater before it is torn down to become Condominiums.
300 Bones features performances by Russ Tamblyn (Drive, Twin Peaks, West Side Story), J. Bailey Burcham, and Marza Warsinske.
The musical 300 Bones was written by Derrick C. Brown, based on his poem of the same name from his book, Our Poison Horse.
Derrick C. Brown is the winner of the 2013 Texas Book of the Year for his book Strange Light. He is a former paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne. He is the author of eight books of fiction and poetry and three children's books. His work has appeared on This American Life, The Nerdist, and Savage Love.
Amanda Rafkin attended the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music on scholarship and has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout her career. Over the past fifteen years, Rafkin has performed as a soloist and accompanist nationwide. In addition to her classical music performances, she has played in multiple musical theatre productions and spoken word performances throughout the country.
300 Bones will premiere on August 11th at 8pm at the Steve Allen Theater, located at 4773 Hollywood Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90027. Tickets at trepanyhouse.org.
