Tracie Thoms joins the cast of Show at Barre's FOR THE RECORD: BAZ LUHRMANN

March 2, 2011...Los Angeles, CA-Show at Barre welcomes Tracie Thoms, star of RENT (Film version, Broadway, Hollywood Bowl), Quentin Tarantino's Deathproof, and TV's Cold Case, to the cast of FOR THE RECORD: Baz Luhrmann. Ms. Thoms will make her debut performance in the sell-out live concert event this Saturday, March 5th, and will be part of the rotating ensemble from then on.

Experience the soundtrack of a modern motion picture master. FOR THE RECORD: Baz Luhrmann celebrates the music from The Red Curtain Trilogy- Luhrmann's homage to the major theatrical conventions of Dance, Poetry and Song -STRICTLY BALLROOM, ROMEO + JULIET and MOULIN ROUGE. Playlist includes hit songs such as Lovefool, Kissing You, When Doves Cry, Love Is In The Air, Time After Time, Come What May, Your Song, Roxanne, Children Of The Revolution, Rhythm Of The Night and many more. The show runs Fridays and Saturday evenings at Los Angeles' BARRE, vt through April 30th. Thursday night performances will be added to the schedule beginning March 10th.

Conceived by Show at Barre Executive Producer/Director Shane Scheel and Musical Director Chris Bratten, the "For the Record" series combines the highest-caliber theatrical and vocal talent with the style and spectacle of Los Angeles by showcasing the signature songs and iconic scenes from Hollywood's most legendary directors. The inaugural event of the series, FOR THE RECORD: TARANTINO-also headlined by Tracie Thoms-will launch a full-scale national tour in 2012. The sell-out run of FOR THE RECORD: John Hughes, starring TV's Barrett Foa (NCIS: Los Angeles) played its final performance this past January.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Tracie Thoms has had wide-ranging success in film, television and theatre throughout her career. She's considered one of the rising stars of a new generation of talented and versatile American actors. In 2008, she realized a long-held dream when she starred as 'Joanne' in the final weeks of the historic 12 year run of the Broadway musical, "Rent". Previously, she played the same crucial role in Sony's film of "Rent" opposite Rosario Dawson, Taye Diggs and Jesse Martin. In 2007, she starred opposite Kurt Russell in Quentin Tarantino's "Grindhouse: Death Proof." The New York Times and other major media outlets gave Tracie rave reviews. She was also featured opposite Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in "The Devil Wears Prada" for director David Frankel.

Thoms also starred on Broadway opposite Alfre Woodard in ReGina Taylor's "Drowning Crow." She was a lead in the critically acclaimed "The Exonerated" at The Culture Project Off-Broadway, and she's been featured in "The 24 Hour Plays," "The 24 Hour Musicals" and the new plays, "10 Things To Do Before I Die" for New York's Second Stage Theatre and "And Her Hair Went With Her" at Los Angeles' Fountain Theatre.

On television, she was a series regular on the longrunning CBS series, "Cold Case." She also starred on the Fox series, "Wonderfalls" and UPN's "As If"; had a memorable guest role as CCH Pounder's tortured daughter on FX's "The Shield"; and appeared in the indie films "Sex and Breakfast, Chris Rock's "Good Hair" and "Peter and Vandy."

Tracie began studying acting in her hometown of Baltimore at the age of 9. She attended high school at the prestigious Baltimore School for the Arts. Later, she received a bachelor of fine arts degree from Howard University and a graduate degree in acting from New York City's renowned Juilliard School.

Thoms joins an exception lineup of performers, including Jenna Leigh Green, star of Wicked and TV's Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Arielle Jacobs (Broadway's In the Heights), and Kate Reinders (Wicked), Dionne Gipson, Ben D. Goldberg, Sarah Jayne Jensen, Ginifer King, Derek Klena, Steve Mazurek, John Charles Meyer, Michael Motroni, Tinuke Oyefule, Jason Paige, Darryl Semira, Margaret Spirito, Brooke Tansley, Talia Thiesfield, Jessica KeeNan Wynn. Cast performs in rotation and will vary between performances. Additional celebrity guest performers to be announced.

For the Record: Baz Luhrmann performs every Thursday (starting March 10th), Friday, and Saturday evening through April 30th at BARRE, VT, located at 1714 N. Vermont Ave. in Los Feliz. Showtime is 9pm, doors open at 8pm for dinner. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance at www.showatbarre.com. Online advance tickets are strongly encouraged. Tickets (if available) can be purchased at the door one hour prior to show time.
