Tom Waters To Direct Premiere Of I AM CHARLIE at Promenade Playhouse ImagePromenade Playhouse and El Gato Rojo Productions have confirmed Tom Waters will direct the world premiere of playwright Stephen A Cardinal's "I AM CHARLIE." The intense drama will open September 14 through October 21, 2018. Additional information and tickets will go on sale 8/14 through www.promenadeplayhouse.com

I Am Charlie explores the question: Why is the Charlie meme chiseled in granite when other 20th century memes (JFK, for example) are completely and continuously malleable?

Most people will agree what was bizarre in 1969 would be old news in a few days and forgotten in a week.

I Am Charlie is NOT the play you were expecting about Charles Manson. It looks at the Charles Manson story (Among other things) through the mind of Charlie himself.

"After 25 years of training horses, I've come back to my roots as an actor, writer and producer and now Director".

Tom makes his second Promenade Playhouse Directorial turn with Stephen A. Cardinal's I Am Charlie. In 2017, Tom Directed Dean Ghaffari's critically acclaimed Rebel With a Cause: The Sal Mineo Story. In 2016, Tom was Assistant Director to Promenade Playhouse Artistic Director Natalia Lazarus for Dennis Wilson Forevermore: A Beach Boy's Fable.

Tom was formerly associated with the Hidden Hills Playhouse and with Neon Art Productions in Los Angeles, where he produced and co-produced several stage plays including the financially successful and critically acclaimed Working by Studs Terkel. Presented at the world famous Mayfair Music Hall in Santa Monica, California.

In 2012, Tom stepped behind the camera and started El Gato Rojo Productions. EGR's first production was the documentary The Best Thing for the Inside of a Marine is the Outside of a Horse and the pilot episodes of the TV series Paranormal Experience, which Tom created, produced, directed and hosted.

Waters has a standing development "deal" with one of the major streaming networks.

Previously Tom enjoyed a great career racing Motocross for Suzuki in the '70s with short forays into Sprint Cars and Formula 2 before embarking on a business career that included creating the first business model for video tape rental! Yes, he invented Blockbuster Video!

Stephen A. Cardinal is a film and television screenwriter and a playwright. He is a graduate of the UCLA Professional Program in Screenwriting. His screenplays have achieved awards from screenwriting competitions (Blue Cat and Scriptapalooza). He has written Television pilots that have been reviewed for production by major Hollywood studios. His work in the development of short form and long form Television "Bibles", the critical documents needed to receive serious consideration by production executives, has led to a training program to help writers create and hone these important documents. His play I am Charlie looks at the Charles Manson story through the mind of Charlie himself.

Cardinal has worked extensively with screenwriters in the critical evaluation and improvement of their work, particularly in rewriting scripts before presentation to production executives.

His extensive business training and experience, including a Masters degree in Marketing give him a unique perspective on the business side of the film industry.

Steve and Tom work as co-writers creating and developing projects for Film and Television and together they maintain a "Development" deal with a major streaming network.
