Theatre of Note's SHEET CAKE SLIDING World Premiere Begins Tonight

Theatre of NOTE presents the world premiere of SHEET CAKE SLIDING, written by Stacia Saint Owens and directed by Nicholas Newell. SHEET CAKE SLIDING, in which a nuclear family goes BOOM!, will preview tonight, September 13 and Saturday, September 14, and will open on Friday, September 20 at 8pm and run through Saturday, October 19 at Theatre of NOTE, 1517 N Cahuenga Blvd (just north of Sunset) in Hollywood.

SHEET CAKE SLIDING is a world premiere production. A self-made business executive tries to mold his family to conform to his big plans, only to find that the family is a creation as complex and dangerous as Frankenstein's monster. A black comedy narrated by two pet Dalmations and acted by characters who don't want to be in the play, SHEET CAKE SLIDING is a post-modern Willie Loman story for the latter half of the 20th century.

STACIA SAINT OWENS (playwright) Stacia Saint Owens holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Brown University, and a BFA in Theatre with a Playwriting concentration from Southern Methodist University. While at Brown, she was awarded the university's Weston Prize in Dramatic Writing, and studied under Pulitzer Prize-winning playwrights Paula Vogel and Nilo Cruz. In the late 1990s, Ms. Saint Owens co-founded The Pig Latin Embassy--- An Artists' ColLaboratory. Located in Hollywood, the resident company mounted interdisciplinary, experimental premieres by West Coast writers and artists. Her plays have appeared at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, The Working Theatre, Cherry Lane Theatre, New Dramatists, Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, InterAct LA, Ensemble Studio Theatre LA, and regional theatres in Dallas, Chicago, Providence, and Los Angeles. Her short story collection, Auto-Erotica (Livingston Press), is the winner of the Tartt First Fiction Award and was shortlisted for the Saroyan International Prize for Writing. Stacia is a former Lecturer in English Literature at Harrow College in England, and currently resides in London. Sheet Cake Sliding is dedicated to her siblings: Steven Owens, Amanda Owens, and Rebecca Owens Ervin.

NICHOLAS NEWELL (director) Nicholas Newell is very pleased to be making his Theatre of NOTE directorial debut. He is the Director of the Hilton Head Island New Play Festival, and recently directed the world premiere of The Baristas by festival alum James Rasheed at South Carolina Repertory Company. Nicholas served three years as Artistic Director of the Bok Players, an interactive theatre company in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His credits include plays at The American Repertory Theatre, Trinity Repertory Company, Actors Shakespeare Project, New York Stage and Film, Chester Theatre Company, Dorset Theatre Festival, Mill Mountain Theatre, Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre, Riverrun Theatre Company, and Off-Broadway with the world premiere of Elvis People at New World Stages. He is an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Georgia Southern University, and a graduate of the Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard and the Moscow Art Theatre School.

SHEET CAKE SLIDING features the design talents of an impressive array of Los Angeles area designers including: scenic design and prop design by Christopher Scott Murillo (at East West Players, Steel Magnolias; at The Chance Theater, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson; at Playwright's Arena, The Anatomy of Gazellas; at UCSD, Titus Andronicus, In the Red and Brown Water, Spring Awakening); lighting design by Brandon Baruch (previous credits at NOTE include Hot Cat, Copy, Have You Seen Alice; Los Angeles lighting design credits include eve2 at Bootleg Theater, The Second City's A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens at Kirk Douglas Theater; Lost Moon Radio - America at South Coast Rep Studio Series; A Kind of Love Story at SacRed Fools Theater; Spring Awakening at The Arena Stage at Theatre of Arts - Ovation Award Nomination; and The 33rd and 34th Annual LA Weekly Theater Awards at Avalon Hollywood); sound design by Corwin Evans; costume design by Angela Ursetta (selected credits include the filmsSacrament, Arena, The Best Daughter, and Had Had, and the plays Skyview Double Feature, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Margery and Me, The Best Daughter, and Feedback). The production is stage managed by Kelly Egan.

SHEET CAKE SLIDING will preview on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14 at 8pm and will open on Friday, September 20 at 8pm and runs through Saturday, October 19 at Theatre of NOTE, 1517 N Cahuenga (just north of Sunset) in Hollywood.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 7pm. Understudy performances are Thursday October 3 at 8pm and Sunday, October 6 at 2pm. Ticket prices are $25; students & seniors $20.
