Theatre of NOTE is proud to announce the theatrical release of Kill Me, Deadly on Friday April 1st at Laemmle's Ahrya Fine Arts. Kill Me, Deadly, screenplay by Bill Robens, and directed by Darrett Sanders, was originally produced as a stage play, with the world premiere at Theatre of NOTE in Hollywood in July of 2009 becoming a critically-lauded, thrice-extended, sold-out run. The production smashed box office and attendance records for the thirty-year-old theater company.
Kirsten Vangsness (Criminal Minds) reprises her role from the original play and executive produces (under the umbrella of Opiate of the Masses), bringing with her fellow Criminal Minds castmates Joe Mantegna and Shemar Moore. The story that follows gumshoe Charlie Nickels (Dean Lemont, also reprising his stage role) as he investigates a stolen diamond, seedy Vegas tycoons, slick crooners, murder, double and triple crosses and a never-to-be-trusted dame. Paul F. Tompkins, Lesley-Anne Down and Keith Allan co-star, along with almost all of the cast members from the original stage production.
Bill Robens' screen adaptation explores elements of the film noir genre that could never be executed on stage, and does so without losing the energy and cleverness that made the play so successful. The adaptation offers the wonderful opportunity to bring back the style and excitement of the beloved noir films of the 1940s. Kill Me, Deadly lovingly has fun with the genre, but without losing the danger and glamour that have enshrined those films as an enduring part of the consciousness of filmgoers to this day. Other members of the behind-the-camera crew include cinematography by Nicholas Trikonis and production designer Krystyna ?oboda (Cesar Chavez and Stitch), costume designer Kimberly Freed, and original music composed by Bill Newlin (Scream Of The Bikini, Malpractice).
Indican Pictures, the indie distributor, plans an extremely on-the-nose theatrical release beginning with the April 1st theatrical premiere at Laemmle's Ahrya Fine Arts, followed by release in top five U.S. markets, Canada and the UK followed by a nationwide digital/VOD platform bow April 26.
Kill Me, Deadly is a shining example of both the quality of work that Los Angeles theatres, operating under the 99 Seat Code, can create, and also of the ability of these member-run theatres to help create union jobs for AEA members.
