Theatre Roscius is proud to present its second project for 2014, the world premiere of Chitlin' Blues: Dancing in the Grey, debuting at the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2014. Chitlin' Blues: Dancing in the Grey is an eclectic mix of physical theatre and Vaudeville, moving along deep roots it explores the thin line between what is black and white through the use of dance, sound, movement, and silence.
Chitlin' Blues: Dancing in the Grey will be presented at The Complex Theatre during the Hollywood Fringe Festival, June 7 to 29, 2014. The production features Constance Strickland along with special guests Guebri VanOver, Memory Willis, and Ruth Reynolds. Striving to find hope in the stark places, this new work by Theatre Roscius is a bold look at the power of racial stereotypes and how they have shaped the American entertainer, on and off stage, through history.
Theatre Roscius's Hollywood Fringe Festival 2013 production of HerSheMe ("Breathtakingly beautiful... a remarkable piece that simply must be experienced." The Examiner) was nominated for Best in Dance & Physical Theatre, was awarded a Best of Extension and later performed as part of the New Orleans Fringe Festival 2013. The most recent project by Theatre Roscius, a short film titled Black Like Her, has been called ""A deeply evocative piece of work filled with a stunning marriage of the actor's craft with the director's technique, all nicely threaded through the most lamenting jazz music imaginable." (John Henry Richardson) Established by Constance Strickland and Memory Willis, Theatre Roscius, a Los Angeles-based experimental performance art theatre troupe, was founded on the simple idea that stories must be shared. That the simple act of sharing, when individuals gather to explore the many facets of being human, ultimately reveals our hidden similarities, and people otherwise easily mistaken for strangers, foreigners, outcasts, when put together in one room, can find they have always known one another. Theatre Roscius aims to create innovative, relevant, and compassionate theatre.Videos
