Theatre Raymond Kabbaz Presents THE LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD Image

Theatre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) is proud to present the Los Angeles premiere of Le petit chaperon rouge (Little Red Riding Hood), by French award-winning writer-director Joël Pommerat, on March 9 and 10, 2018, at 7:30pm.

We all know the story of Little Red Riding Hood and yet ... In the beautifully concise, archetypal language of fairy tales, Pommerat rewrites the steps of the most famous story, preserving its original structure while teasing out a profound rite of initiation and passage. What results is a crisp, wholly modern interpretation of a bittersweet classic. No less appropriate for adults as it is for children, this delicate story is perfect for anyone who has ever faced fear, loneliness, or the ambivalence of growing up.

A bored little girl, a busy and forbidding mother and lonely grandmother, all affected by one scary but chatty wolf, are all it takes. Pommerat limpid writing is carried by a comedian narrator and two actresses played by French comedians Rodolphe MARTIN, Isabelle RIVOAL and Valérie VINCI. Dialogues are little jewels of humor. The show, playing subtly with shadows and lights, the sound evocations and an interpretation of a great precision, will take the spectators from fear to laughter.

Created in 2004, the play has met with resounding success ever since it began and has been staged and sold out in France and around the world ... It is considered to be one of Joël Pommerat's major work. The seriousness, the gentleness, the evocative power of Pommerat, his delicateness as well, have made this Little Red Riding Hood one of the most beautiful spectacles ever. Le petit Chaperon Rouge is a theatrical legend, to be seen again and again, by children and adults alike.

The play is performed in French with projected English subtitles.

The 45-minute performance without intermission will start at 7:30pm and will take place at Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, the innovative performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, 10361 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles CA 90064 (310-286-0553). Suitable for children age 8 and up. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for students.
