Theatre Guild's Next Musical is ZORBA ImageMusical Theatre Guild, the winner of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Margaret Harford Award for sustained excellence in the theatre, will continue their 23rd Anniversary season with Kander and Ebb's haunting musical ZORBA. The one-night-only concert will take place at Glendale's historic Alex Theatre on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 7:00 PM.

Prolific and ever versatile composers Kander and Ebb travel us to Greece with one of their most beautifully evocative scores. With a book by Joseph Stein, we meet the exuberant and passionate Zorba as he befriends a fledgling American writer who confronts his own life choices when he falls in love with a local widow. As bluntly sung at the top of show... "Life is what you do while you're waiting to die." Earthy, practical and ultimately true.

Based on Nikos Kazantzakis' 1952 novel and the subsequent 1964 Academy© Award winning film Zorba the Greek, ZORBA opened on Broadway in 1968 in a production starring Hershel Bernardi and directed by Harold Prince. It ran for 305 performances and was nominated for 8 Tony© Awards with Boris Aronson winning for his scenic design. It was revived on Broadway in 1983 starring Anthony Quinn.

Starring in the title role of Zorba is Michael Kostroff with fellow company members Eydie Alyson as Hortense, Eileen Barnett as Leader, Tal Fox as The Widow, Paul Wong as Mimiko and guest artist Dino Nicandros as Niko.

They will be joined by MTG company members Jill Marie Burke, Joshua Finkel, Anthony Gruppuso, Glenn Rosenblum, Robert Yacko and guest artists Bailey Blaise, Matt Braver, Veronica Gutierrez, Sharon Logan, Susan Edwards Martin, Kevin Matsumoto, Gabriel Navarro and Tanner Rampton.

ZORBA will be directed by Alan Bailey, musical directed by Brad Ellis, choreographed by Cheryl Baxter-Ratliff, and is under the production supervision of John Massey.

The 2018 - 2019 Musical Theatre Guild season continues with MINNIE'S BOYS (February 10, 2019) and concludes with SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE (May 5, 2019).

The Alex Theatre is located at 216 N. Brand Blvd in Glendale, CA. Season and single tickets are available by visiting www.alextheatre.org or by calling 818-243-ALEX.
