Theatre From Life On the Street: Hustlin at the McCadden Theatre Huslin is an original play by The Strindberg Laboratory. This is the first play The Strindberg Laboratory has done in connection with SST productions. Hustlin was the pick of the day on LA Weekly on August 17th with the two opening performances. It was recognized in the Los Angeles Times on September 3. Stringberg Laboratory is proud to present one more special performance on Sunday September 7th at 4pm at the McCadden Theatre, 1157 N. McCadden Place in Hollywood. This is the first play The Strindberg Laboratory has written and performed with members of Skid Row Recovery Program in Downtown Los Angeles. Some of the comments audience members made through email and facebook were: "Amazing and powerful theater experience with stellar actors. So creative." "I saw the 2pm show. It was AMMAZZZZZING!! After years of drug and alcohol destruction, I'm in recovery. You guys are talented and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your gifts and I hope to see more of your artistic talents in the future!!" "...Experience the ups and downs of hustlers, pimps, prostitutes, corrupt ministers and ex-cons trying to survive in a world where the game is stacked against them."

Huslin is based on the experiences of the actors in the play their own life stories of street life. Developed in Skid Row, the play is broken down into many original stories with freestyle rap linking the whole play together. The Strindberg Laboratory focuses in bringing hope to society where the gap between rich and poor increases every day. We want to give back the voice to those people who have lost it by offering theatre workshops as an empowerment to cope with financial, physical, emotional and creative poverty. The Strindberg Theatre company is young, vibrant and known for its ability to breathe fresh new life into old works; this production is no exception, however the company stays simultaneously true to Strindberg's naturalist vision and intricate stage direction.

Our group creates professional theater productions with our students and with our theater members. This allows us to build a creative dialogue and relationship with communities and strengthen our own professional skills and creativity. Through the messages of our plays we strengthen and bring local communities together. The Strindberg laboratory performs international tours to Europe as our ties and part of our legacy comes from Europe. One of the founders of the Strindberg Laboratory, Meri Pakarinen, worked from 2006 to 2012 for young adults at risk program for Helsinki City Educational Department in Sininen Verstas in Helsinki (The Blue Workshop and The Blue Academy). This is the model that we use for our creative workshops here in Los Angeles. In addition to creating productions and workshops here in Los Angeles we collaborate with different independent theatres throughout the country and in Europe. The performance will have a suggested ticket price of $12. Call 213-265-6313 to secure a ticket to our limited performances on September 7th. You can find out more about The Strindberg Laboratory in our website: www.strindberglaboratory.com and see some excerpts from Huslin.

Hustlin is produced by The Strindberg Laboratory and is made possible by SST productions whose generous offer to donate their theatre for TSL performances made this production possible with Skid Row recovery program actors. SST Productions is a five-year-old, LA-based nonprofit theatrical producing organization with a mission to provide the best in original and classical performances in a variety of venues.

The Strindberg Laboratory team has proven itself adept at bringing clarity and solution into the lives of individuals who have been dealt a lousy hand. There can be a great deal of pain, disappointment and suffering in their past, which can lead many onto a path of personal destruction. This program can be the beginning of a process in helping find healthier building blocks and thus, start the process of reconstructing one's life and turning it around. Huslin is performed by the Skid Row Program but it also features TSL founder Meri Pakarinen who's performances is said to probe enormous emotional depths. Other TSL founder Michael Bierman as Vincent Van Gogh is said to more than just imitate Vincent as he exposes his soul which is so prevalent in his paintings.
