The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and The Miracle Project, a national award-winning performing arts nonprofit company for people of all abilities and disabilities, present The Intimidation Game-an original anti-bullying musical that draws its storyline from the personal experiences of its participants-in The Wallis' Lovelace Studio Theater on May 22 - 24 at 6pm. The musical features young performers, with and without autism and other disabilities, coming together to tell the story about the challenges facing a new student as he tries to find his way in a high school full of cliques and quick judgments about those who fit in and those who don't.
The Intimidation Game-an initiative of GRoW @ The Wallis, the center's education department-is the culmination of a sixteen-week session that began on Jan. 19. Students auditioned to participate and formed a unique performance troupe comprised of individuals with and without autism who met every Tuesday to stage, choreograph and rehearse at The Wallis. The purpose of The Intimidation Game aims to help others understand autism and to teach tolerance, compassion, inclusion and anti-bullying.
"Bullying is something that everyone can relate to, and The Intimidation Game aims to show young adults that they are not facing these kinds of problems alone," said The Miracle Project founder
Elaine Hall. "The Intimidation Game was born as a result of an unpleasant experience of one of our cast members at her school and has developed into a highly-entertaining musical that we hope will inspire The Wallis' audiences."
"The Intimidation Game is a truly inspiring story that delivers a powerful message about inclusion and acceptance," said Mark Slavkin, Director of Education at The Wallis. "It has been an incredible journey working with these amazingly talented performers, under the leadership of
Elaine Hall and her team, to stage this special musical at The Wallis. We are proud to provide an artistic home for The Miracle Project and look forward to continuing our partnership."
