Co-Artistic Director responsibilities include cultivating prosperous relationships with artists, audiences, theatre industry colleagues, donors, board members, critics, community leaders, educational institutions, volunteers, and other arts groups; organizing and helming the company's annual on-line fundraiser and guaranteeing its success; managing the team of Resident Artists who work for The Vagrancy; scheduling and managing the company's yearly calendar; directing one full production, developing one new play and producing one production per season; finding, developing and producing new, lesser-known, and classical work with duende that holds true to The Vagrancy's mission; growing and nurturing the pool of diverse, talented company members, resident artists and playwrights; hiring all artistic staff including guest directors, designers, non-company actors, and stage managers; maintaining The Vagrancy's commitment to new play development including The Vagrancy Writers Group and Blossoming, The Vagrancy's annual new play reading series.
MFA in directing or equivalent professional experience and a resume of directing and producing theatre in Los Angeles is preferred. A strong network throughout the Los Angeles theatre industry is vital- someone who possesses a range of experience that demonstrates a proactive and creative approach to engaging the local artistic community.
Position begins training January 1st 2017 as an Apprentice Artistic Director and officially begins in August 2017 at the beginning of the new season. The Vagrancy is a not-for-profit organization and all Artistic Staff are VOLUNTEER. Stipends available for Co-Artistic director twice a year when serving as a director and producer.
