A new revolution for women's rights is beginning. Experience the movement when The Smiley Face and the Frown Entertainment Co. performs one show of The Vagina Monologues at 6pm at the newly opened, Cupcake Theater in Hollywood, CA.
This production is a part of the VDay organization, a global activist movement attempting to end violence toward women and girls. Written by Tony-award winning writer, Eve Ensler, The Vagina Monologues has become a celebration to raise awareness for women's protection all over the world! 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Peace Over Violence, a non-profit organization that lends support and prevention of violence toward women and children.
The Vagina Monologues is a collection of tender, witty monologues based off of interviews held with hundreds of women across the world. The monologues dive into stories of women's sexual experiences, fantasies, and their struggles to become comfortable with their own body. Since its first staging in 1996, it has been translated into more than 45 languages, performed in more than 120 countries and re-created as an HBO film. Eve Ensler created the VDay event to actively help put an end to female brutality, after hearing that one out every three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in their lifetime. Eve Ensler says, "When we give in the world what we want the most, we heal the broken part inside each of us."
The Cupcake Theater opened its doors last month in January, making it a sparkling new edition to Hollywood's theater community. This little gem is located in the heart of Hollywood near many famous restaurants and historic sites, such as Grauman's Chinese Theater, The Hollywood Walk of Fame, and of course the home of the Academy Awards, The Dolby Theater.
The Smiley Face and the Frown Entertainment Co. is a non-profit organization that has a "no pay to play" motto for company members, and uses the proceeds from shows and fundraising events to give back to the community. This is their second year participating in the VDay event, and after great success last year, they're hoping to have another sold out performance in order to exceed last year's donation amount for Peace Over Violence.
This production brings together a cast of electrifying women, of different ages, different ethnicities, but all have the overall desire to spread one powerful message: Peace for all women! This performance is one night only. Online reservations are encouraged.
