The Grove Theatre announces the opening of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest tonight, September 12th at 7:29 pm and runs on weekends through September 28th.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest follows Randle McMurphy, a boisterous, charming, life-affirming rogue who contrives a plan to avoid hard labor and serve the rest of his prison sentence in a more relaxed mental hospital environment rather than in a prison. Once there, he clashes with the head nurse, and manages to accomplish what the medical profession had failed to do, leading many of the other patients out of introversion. McMurphy stages numerous revolts against the head nurse, and his defiance, which starts as sport, quickly develops into a grim power struggle with the institution.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is the unforgettable story of a mental hospital and its inhabitants in a world where sanity means conformity and following the rules is the only way to survive. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a powerful exploration of the beauty and the danger of being an original. Dale Wasserman adapted One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest from the novel by Ken Kesey. The play opened on Broadway in 1963 with Kirk Douglas as McMurphy, Ed Ames as the Chief and Gene Wilder as Billy.
Directed by Barry Devine, and featuring a talented cast, Cuckoo's Nest is not to be missed.
