The Associated Press is reported that the 1988 horror movie "The Fly" will be the latest in a growing line of films to be converted into an opera.
The new adaptation will feature music by Academy Award winner Howard Shore (who also did the film score) and star famous European tenor Placido Domingo. AP reports that while the musical will be less gory then the film, it still aims to scare.
The Fly is a 1986 science fiction/horror/romantic tragedy film produced by Brooksfilms and 20th Century Fox, directed by David Cronenberg, and starring
Jeff Goldblum,
Geena Davis and John Getz. The story centers around a brilliant but eccentric scientist whose latest experiment goes terribly wrong, leading him to transform into a man/fly hybrid.
The libretto was done by
David Henry Hwang. The opera will premiere at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris before moving to Los Angeles Opera on September 7th.
