The Donny Hathaway Live Tribute Comes To The Troubadour March 15 Image

The world famous Troubadour in Los Angeles will host the Donny Hathaway Live Tribute this Friday March 15th at 9 p.m. An incredible group of musicians and singers will come together to perform the music featured on the classic album "Donny Hathaway Live" which was released in 1972. Long considered one of the best live albums ever recorded, the songs are taken from a performance originally given by Donny Hathaway at the Troubadour back in 1971.

Hathaway was an American soul singer, keyboardist, songwriter, and arranger whose hits include "The Ghetto", "This Christmas", "Someday We'll All Be Free", "Little Ghetto Boy", "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know", "For All We Know", "Where Is the Love" and "The Closer I Get to You."

The idea for this tribute performance came out of a great experience that this core group of musicians had while performing another classic, Bill Withers at Carnegie Hall, recorded in 1972. They performed the Bill Withers tribute concert as a love letter to his music on January 25th, 2018 at the Peppermint Club in West Hollywood. While the band prepared diligently for this night of music, nothing could have prepared them for the moment when Bill Withers himself (notoriously shy and almost never seen performing or in public) arrived at the Peppermint Club. Word has it that he had heard about the show from his kids, and after watching the show was so moved by the performance, that he got up on stage during the finale of Lean On Me and joined the band.

This gifted group of musicians is coming together for a one time, special tribute performance to Donny Hathaway. As the Troubador is the birthplace of the classic Los Angeles music scene in the 1970's, this is a long tradition at this very special venue. Some of the musicians and singers scheduled to perform on Friday have worked with John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban, Macy Gray, Vulfpeck, Joey Dosik, Lettuce, Andra Day, Max Frost, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. Bill Withers' daughter, Kori, will be singing at the tribute, as well.

Featured Artists: Judith Hill, Kori Withers, Theo Katzman, David Ryan Harris, Madison Ryan Ward, Joey Dosik, Nigel Hall, Charles Jones, Louis Cato, Jacob Luttrell, Jonah Smith, Jeffrey David Goldford, Teddy Grossman, Raquel Rodriguez and Caleb Hawley.

Rhythm Section: Josh Teitelbaum - drums, Alex Kyhn - bass, Jason Goldstein - keyboards, Nick Monahan - guitar, Ben Rose - percussion and James Cornelison - guit / vox.
