The Ahimsa Collective, in an ongoing effort to craft new talent and develop new communities of artists and theater-goers, created the Living Room Tour as a way to side-step the bureaucracy and cost of modern theaters. Every year, we develop an original work by a new, emerging playwright, and rather than put it up in a costly theater setting, we stage it guerrilla-style in ordinary living rooms throughout southern California. In previous years, we've staged productions in locales as varied as sprawling mansions, cramped apartments, and even college dorms. This year's tour will take us North to the Valley, South to Orange county, over to the Westside, all the way East to Monrovia, and everywhere in between. We'll partner with each house to host a night of food, drink, and art. This October and November under the direction of Ashley Opstad, we'll be touring Day One and So On, the debut work of Ahimsa's own Jack De Sena.
Robbie has spent the whole of his adult life under the influence of alcohol. Now, he's trying to get sober. This moving slice of life dramedy follows Robbie's day-to-day life as a recovering alcoholic, as he stumbles through the ups and downs of an entirely new way of living.
Before the play begins, there will be a small reception at the home, replete with food and refreshments. The pre-party starts at 7:20, and the play itself will begin at 8:00.

Jack De Sena, The Ahimsa Collective's Chief Artistic Consultant and Artist Outreach Associate, worked with Ahimsa during Ahimsa's first project, playing Todd in Pterodactyls. He has since co-directed and appeared in A Quiet Night of Chaos and Attraction/Logic. Jack also directed Epilogue, an original play that was toured through California and produced in living rooms. Jack is also a member of Everybody Nose, The Ahimsa Collective's resident clown troupe. Jack attended UCLA, where he studied theatre. As an actor, Jack has appeared in various film and television projects including Nickelodeon's All That and Avatar: The Last Airbender. As a swimmer, Jack cannot hold his breath for very long because he has asthma. He continues directing, acting, and performance-arting in Ahimsa productions.
Ashley Opstad first worked with The Ahimsa Collective last year when she played Anna in Epilogue by Matthew Chester. A beautiful partnership emerged. Ashley is the Artistic and Managing Director of The Improv Space in Westwood. Through The Improv Space, she has continued to work with Ahimsa, hosting the monthly Community Pool and the hit one-man-show From Foster Care to Fabulous. Ashley is an actor, director, theatre educator and above all, an improviser. She has improvised all over the country from Los Angeles to Austin, TX to Madison, WI. She performed in the Los Angeles Improv Comedy Festival in 2007, 2008, and 2009 and the Out Of Bounds Comedy Festival in 2009 and will be returning in 2010. You can catch Ashley twice a week at The Improv Space: Thursdays at 9pm with Token Boy and Fridays at 10pm with The 400 Cat.
