"After making my way around the storytelling circuit here in L.A., I noticed I hardly ever saw people who looked like me, but whenever I'd post my stories online I had so many comments from women of color who also shared a similar experience or shared a completely different experience of their own. I knew this storytelling show had to happen and I knew it had to happen with Teatro Luna/Teatro Luna West. Some of the stories performed here have never left the storyteller's lips until now, while others are told simply to spread joy and release. No matter what the story is, they have all done one thing for sure - allowed us to feel slightly less alone in this world." said Christina Igaraividez, a recurring host for the series and one of the inaugural storytellers for TWF Storytelling Sessions September 20th, 2018.

TWF Storytelling sessions began in September 2018 as monthly series that would feature new women of color once a month every month- and we opened the series before we even opened our space, Studio Luna to the public. Our official launch happens soon this spring. Due to popular demand, Teatro Luna West produced a special edition show in December proving that we could sustain two episodes a month. Season 2 will feature two episodes a month as the program continues to grow, topics have included: Home, Fresh, Outlaw, Odyssey and Devotion. So far the series has highlighted people like Maria Alexandria Beech who shared a story about her interview with Fidel Castro back when she was a journalist, Gabriela Ortega who shared a story about coming to terms with the complexities of having your nanny leave her position to pursue her dreams, Christina Igaraividez on the complexities of blended families, Elizabeth Nungaray on the turmoil of violence experienced at an Immigration Day Parade, and Annabel Garcia Torres on the challenges of dealing with cancer in your family. The series has also featured Maya Malan Gonzalez, Alexandra Meda, Elisa Noemi, Gabriela Bonet, Damariz Vasquez, Alicia Sixtos, Christina Frias, Jessica Perez, Antonieta Carpio Castillo, Amrita Dhaliwal, Hazel Lozano, Helena Doub, Claudia Ramos Jordan, Zury Ruiz, Jasmin Iraheta, Briza Covarrubias, Christen Selaya, Lorna Silva, and Kelley Williams.

"What sounds like a straightforward storytelling event is so much more here for us, the performers, and the audience. What we do here at Teatro Luna/Teatro Luna West is use theatre and performance and community building as tools for healing the self and in turn healing the spaces, people, and places around us. This event has become a ritual for those interested in bearing witness to real stories from real people and being moved. I have learned so much from each and every storyteller so far and we are so excited to come back and keep amplifying more women every month", says Teatro Luna/Teatro Luna West Co-Artistic Director Alexandra Meda.
