Theatre Unleashed is proud to present its next "Late Night Series" show, Camp Ragnarok, running Fridays and Saturdays from August 4 to September 9 at The Belfry in North Hollywood.
A small group of writers are collaborating on a comedy soap opera for the stage that will run for six weeks, with a new "episode" each week! The series follows the lives of nine unique characters at a survivalist camp in these desperate times. And just like your typical soap opera, there's jealousy, intrigue and more than a little bit of the ridiculous.
"TU has a tradition of showcasing new and innovative work and concepts in both our Second Stage and Late Night Series," said Artistic Director Jenn Scuderi Crafts. "Our company writers had two successful runs of our short episodic series Play/Time and they have taken the 'new episode each week' concept to the next level with this show. Audiences are going to be coming back for more every week!"
The show marks quite a challenge for the actors who will immediately start rehearsing the next episode as soon as each one finishes, with some crossover. Directing the show is TU member and ImprompTU Imposters improv veteran Carey Matthews.
"It's a comedy soap opera about a camp where people learn skills to help them survive in the wilderness," Matthews said. "It takes familiar tropes from the soap opera world, like varying storylines and unnecessary drama, and completely flips them for comedic effect. It's fierce, full of intrigue and fun, whether you're a fan of soap operas or if you find them cheesy."
The show will run Friday and Saturday nights. In late August, it will be joined in The Belfry by the introspective suspense thriller Inside the Mind of Me. Check out www.theatreunleashed.org for more info.
