On July 2, playwright, author and screenwriter Liz Meriwether will join The Writers' Room with Reza Aslan, a refreshing take on the typically staid literary event that includes a live house band, cocktails, and audience interaction. Staged the first Wednesday of every month, The Writer's Room is an intimate yet fast-paced conversation with some of today's most compelling poets, novelists, non-fiction writers and screenwriters. Reza Aslan, a controversial, internationally acclaimed writer and scholar of religions, andauthor of the #1 New York Times Bestseller Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth, hosts the monthly series that is formatted much in the way of the popular series Inside The Actors Studio -- but for writers. The series began last month with first guest B.J. Novak, author (The New York Times Bestseller "One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories"), screenwriter (The Office), and actor (Inglourious Basterds, Saving Mr. Banks). Meriwether, best known for her 2010 play Oliver Parker!, 2011 romantic comedy No Strings Attached, and the hit Fox sitcom New Girl, will talk about these different mediums and her writing process. Tickets are available for $20/person and seating is on a first come, first served basis and can be purchased at dbahollywood.com.

The evening begins at DBA, a modern twist on a neighborhood cultural center that is hosting the most vital and relevant live music, DJ's, performance art, spoken word, nightlife fetes and theatrical events, with doors opening at 7PM and craft cocktails available. The house band begins playing at 7:30PM and then Aslan and guest start the discussion at 8PM. As part of the night, a Q&A between the audience and the featured author will bring the discussion to a close. West Hollywood bookstore, Book Soup, will provide books on site from the featured author for both purchase and signing.

The host, Reza Aslan, is also the founder of AslanMedia, a social media network for news and entertainment about the Middle East and the world, and co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of BoomGen Studios, the premier entertainment brand for creative content from and about the Greater Middle East. Aslan's first book is the International Bestseller, No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam, which has been translated into seventeen languages, and named one of the 100 most important books of the last decade. He is also the author of How to Win a Cosmic War, as well as editor of two volumes: Tablet and Pen: Literary Landscapes from the Modern Middle East, and Muslims and Jews in America: Commonalties, Contentions, and Complexities. Aslan has also appeared on several television shows including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Real Time with Bill Maher, and The Colbert Report. Born in Iran, he lives in Los Angeles with his wife (author and entrepreneur Jessica Jackley). When Aslan is not working on his own writing, he serves as a writing consultant in television on the upcoming show, DIG, with Tim Kring and Gideon Raff.
