Lamb's Players Theatre is kicking off the summer season with a re-imagined production of the beloved musical The Fantasticks. The wonder and romance-filled musical plays June 5 - July 26 at Lamb's Players Theatre in Coronado, with an opening night for media on June 12 at 8:00pm.
With book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, The Fantasticks is one of the most beautiful musicals ever written. It started out a crowd-pleaser and ended up the longest-running musical of all time, with an astonishing 42-year New York run. A girl and boy who live in neighboring houses fall in love despite their parents' feud, until they find that the feud was a trick to bring about their romance. Summer is the perfect season for this sweetly beautiful, broadly theatrical fable about falling in love, growing up, losing childlike innocence and coming home again wiser. With a gorgeous score filled with beloved songs like "Soon It's Gonna Rain," "I Can See It," and the international chart-topper "Try to Remember," The Fantasticks is a delicious musical confection, a treat for the whole family.Directed by Associate Artistic Director Deborah Gilmour Smyth, The Cast of The Fantasticks features Mauricio Mendoza as "El Gallo," Steve Limones as "Matt," Courtney Evans as "Luisa," Antonio "T.J." Johnson as "Bellomy," John Rosen as "Hucklebee," Robert Smyth as "Henry," Bryan Barbarin as "Mortimer" and Joyelle Cabato as "The Mute."
Scenic design is by Mike Buckley, with lighting design by Nathan Peirson and costume design by Jeanne Reith. Musical direction is by Charlie Reuter. Musicians include PJ Bovee on guitar, Leah Panos on harp and Tom Versen playing percussion and Reuter himself on piano. Choreography is by Colleen Kollar Smith, Cecelia Church is the properties designer and Maria Mangiavellano is the production stage manager. The Fantasticks plays at Lamb's Players Theatre, located at 1142 Orange Avenue in Coronado.
