Valle Costa's theatre company, Saudade Theatre, will bring Mickaël de Oliveira's The Constitution to Los Angeles for a limited three-week run, starting October 26, 2018. The cast will feature Juan Javier Cardenas (FX's Snowfall, USA's Shooter, CBS' NCIS: Los Angeles), Adriana DeGirolami ( FX's Snowfall, Showtime's Nurse Jackie), Cristian Gonzalez (AMC's Halt and Catch Fire, TNT's Good Behavior), and Rafael Morais (Blood of My Blood).
The Constitution by Mickaël de Oliveira tells the story of four actors, who are invited by the government to write a new Constitution during troublesome political times. They are sequestered from society and given just six days to complete their mission. The highly acclaimed Portuguese playwright blends classical philosophy and contemporary cynicism, placing importance on social and political analysis, and also experimenting with form. Each performance can be re-explored and challenges its predecessors to discover new expressions of the play's themes. The play was translated exclusively for the Saudade Theatre by dramaturge Maria Inês Marques.
Founded in 2014 by actor Filipe Valle Costa (FX's Snowfall), Saudade Theatre is the first theatre company in the United States devoted to celebrating Portuguese voice and experience. When Valle Costa, who is Lisbon-born, first arrived in the United States for college, it became clear to him that there was a lack of knowledge regarding Portuguese theatre and artists. The company's first production of The Constitution premiered in New York City in 2017 to rave reviews, giving much credit to the theatre company for using art in an effort to raise awareness of their country and for bringing a fascinating, thought-provoking concept to life. The Los Angeles production of The Constitution will mark Valle Costa's directorial debut. The show is produced by Vanessa Varela and composed by Sofia Hultquist's Drum & Lace (The First Monday in May).
The show will run on the following dates and times at MiMoDa Studio on W. Pico Blvd:
* The performance will run approximately 80 minutes with no intermission.
