Special guests have been set for the eighth edition of jackbenny's monthly residency at the Lyric Hyperion Theatre in Silver Lake on Sunday, October 7, at 7pm. Along with percussionist Theo Seidmon, singer (and fourth grade teacher!) Maxx Vogel, fiery pop songstress extraordinaire Bella Hicks, and 1940s-style harmony singers The Bombshells will join the Lipson duo in a two-act show that features wittily provocative original songs, uniquely arranged covers, and friendly guest performers ... all seasoned with the brothers' signature sibling shtick.
In identical twin fashion, jackbenny recently released a new 'double' titled "Asking/Queer" that will be featured in this performance. The song features words, music, and orchestrations by Jack Lipson and Benny Lipson, and is produced by Danny Shyman and the Lipsons. Listen to and download "Asking/Queer" on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.
After years of studying, performing, and writing a wide range of music individually, Los Angeles native twin brothers Jack and Benny Lipson united to birth the project jackbenny, which injects musical theatre storytelling into a gamut of musical styles. Their progressive and fresh harmonic language, informed by jazz and classical roots, complements their progressive, savvy lyrics that explore queer identity, climate change, monogamy, and many other contemporary social and cultural phenomena. jackbenny's comedically energetic performances guide audiences on a candid tour through the fragile, well-curated millennial mind.
The Lipson brothers shared their debut show in 2016 with musician-comedian Reggie Watts, and have since played their "sensational, clever, and astute" originals to sold out audiences in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Sheridan, Wyoming, where they presented their 'musicalette' Miranda, Please! through the Wyoming Theater Festival, as well as in Falam, Myanmar. As the house band for Anita Procedure's bi-monthly Queer Cabaret, jackbenny has collaborated with artists including Emmy Award-winning actors Darren Criss and Jai Rodriguez, and Tony Award-winning director Michael Arden, and they play regularly with undie-rockers The Skivvies on the West Coast. jackbenny is developing Brainstorm, a three-character song cycle of their music.
