On Saturday, February 10, Southern California's beloved public radio station KPCC will host its 2018 Gala, honoring those Los Angeles institutions and individuals who have made a significant difference to the city and the region as a whole.

Starting at 5 p.m. with a private cocktail reception and a silent auction, followed up by a dinner at 7 p.m., KPCC, Southern California Public Radio's (SCPR) Board of Trustees and its President Bill Davis, will come together to celebrate the music, artistry and the work of the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA), and the contributions bestowed upon the city by June Li, Founding Curator of the Chinese Garden, and Steven Koblik, Former President of the Huntington Library in Pasadena.

SCPR's "We Love LA" Gala is one of Los Angeles' preeminent occasions, celebrating those whose life's work has transformed the region. In past years, the station has paid respect to contributions by individuals like Jaime Jarrin, the Dodgers' first Spanish-language play-by-play broadcaster; Morning Edition host Steve Julian; and the oldest African American-owned radio station on the West Coast, KJLH, for instance.

Set to be held at Downtown LA's Westin Bonaventure Hotel (404 South Figueroa), this year's black tie-optional gala will once again feature the music of JT & Friends, a superb 50-plus piece band led by John Tu, CEO of Kingston Technology.

Led by Executive Director Jonathan Weedman, GMCLA is one of the country's largest LGBT arts organizations. Founded in 1979 and now in its 39th season, the organization changes hearts and minds through the power of choral performance, and serves the community through outreach and arts programming focused on youth in middle and high schools and in juvenile detention centers, for instance.

The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens have become one of the region's most treasured cultural institutions. Its Chinese Garden is considered the largest outside of the mainland of China, and this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.

"We love to recognize individuals and institutions that improve the quality of civic and cultural life in LA, but whose stories have rarely been told," said Bill Davis, Southern California Public Radio President. "The contributions that the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles, June Li, Steven Koblik and the Chinese Garden have made need to be recognized and celebrated."
