Paul Stein and THE SOLO COLLECTIVE (L.A.'s only Solo Collective company) in residence at VS. THEATRE COMPANY have announced a special return engagement of the BRIGHT COLORS AND BOLD PATTERNS, written and performed by Drew Droege and directed by Molly Prather. BRIGHT COLORS AND BOLD PATTERNS will perform on Sunday, October 12 at 7pm; Tuesday, October 14 at 8pm & Thursday, October 16 at 8pm at VS. Theatre Company, 5453 W. Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles.
Based on one of the first invitations to a gay wedding in Palm Springs he received last year with the request, "Please refrain from wearing Bright Colors and Bold Patterns," Drew Droege plays Gerry, a charming, over-opinionated, completely loving, mildly overbearing character busted out his mind on coke, trying make sense of gay marriage. A gay man himself, he's not in favor of gays marrying for fear that he doesn't want to end up like the boring suburb bound stereotype he's been fighting against his whole life. It's hilarious, heartbreaking and surprisingly has some really important and surprising things to say about gay marriage.
DREW DROEGE has been playing Chloe Sevigny on stage (The Groundlings, Upright Citizens Brigade, Comedy Central Stage) and on the internet for over 10 years. His videos have been called "compulsively watchable" by The Advocate, and featured on EW's Popwatch, PerezHilton.com, Jezebel.com, New York Times, New York Post, and Huffington Post. His podcast, Glitter In The Garbage, was deemed "lowbrow and brilliant" in New York magazine's Approval Matrix. He's the recipient of Outfest Film Festival's Special Programming Award for Emerging Talent, one of OUT magazine's Out 100, and one of LA Weekly's Top Comedy Acts to Watch in 2012. The Los Angeles Times recently called Drew "the high priest of parody", for his work as a sketch comedian, director, and theatre performer. His TV credits include Baby Daddy, Hot In Cleveland, Key & Peele, Drunk History, How I Met Your Mother, Up All Night, New Girl, Jon Benjamin Has A Van, Nick Swardson's Pretend Time, Glory Daze, The Sarah Silverman Program, Halfway Home, Campus Ladies, Reno 911!, and Logo's Scandalicious and New Now Next Awards. He can be seen in the films Eating Out: Drama Camp, Sassy Pants, Freak Dance, Ass Backwards, Mr. Christmas, and I'm Afraid Of Virginia Wolf.
