The award-winning SkyPilot Theatre Company is kicking off its 14th season with the B-Movie Fundraiser, an event themed after the infamous, off-the-wall movie genre, on Friday, February 23 at 8pm at Hollywood's Theatre of Arts (1625 N. Las Palmas Ave., 90028). Tickets are $15 with additional donations welcome.
The evening will feature five hilariously weird 10-minute plays interspersed with comedy improvisers creating B-movies right on the spot with prompts from the audience. There will also be a silent auction and door prizes. Proceeds will go to help fund the company's new season, which will include the full stage productions Midnight Requisition by Craig Jessen (April), The Bitch is Back - An Elton John Cabaret (June) and Fursona Non Grata by Jeff Goode (fall), as well as the new playwriting series Runway in March.
"We are incredibly excited about the productions and events we have planned for this year," says Artistic Director James Carey. "Starting with this wacky but incredibly fun-filled fundraiser, SkyPilot promises a great season of interesting, evocative and truly entertaining theatre."
Among the five plays to be featured is "Tinder ... Sucka," which is being helmed by celebrity guest director Cynthia Kaye Williams (The Lake House, Prison Break, Nashville, Bosch). The others are "Planet Drag," "A Swell Time at the Dance," "A Day of Dystopia," and "Ramenboxer." The silent auction will include unique items and generous donations made by local businesses including autographed copies of George Wendt's (Cheers) book Drinking with George, a pet grooming package from Pet Haven Spa, a free month of dance classes from Garri Dance, jewelry, gift baskets, gift certificates and more.
