On October 16, 2016, Shelter Hope Pet Shop celebrates five years of rescuing homeless animals from the streets and shelters of the greater Los Angeles area, and finding them forever homes through their pet store located in Janss Marketplace, in Thousand Oaks. The storefront shop adopts only shelter and rescued animals and has saved over 2,500 dogs since 2011.

The five-year anniversary celebration and annual Pet Appreciation Day, co-hosted with Janss Marketplace, features approximately 100 companion animals available for adoption from Shelter Hope Pet Shop, C.A.R.L. (Canine Adoption and Rescue League) and VIDA (Volunteers in Defense of Animals).

The fun-filled day includes auditions for LA's best surfing dog, courtesy of Lucy Pet Foundation's Gnarly Crankin' K-9 Wavemaker, grain-free pet food samples by Protein for Pets, heart-healthy shakes and teas for two-legged guests by The Nutrition Fix, and training tips and giveaways from Camp Bow Bow. In addition, participating stores from Janss Marketplace will be offering gift cards, and artists from Pinot's Palette will be painting pictures of several dogs up for adoption and gifting them to their lucky adopters.

Festivities also include a contest for Best Pet Costume and appreciation awards for two special humans,

Abbie Hodash, longtime Shelter Hope Pet Shop volunteer and Sandy Sigal, CEO for NewMark Merrill/ owner of Janss Marketplace.

"Our Shelter Hope business model has helped eliminate the sale of puppy mill dogs," states Kim Sill, founder of Shelter Hope Pet Shop. "As a result, we have launched two other Shelter Hope Pet Shops in California. Or goal is to help other rescue organizations run their own humane pet store so we can work together to save even more animals in need."
