With Halloween lurking and the darkness of night falling earlier, The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles (SCLA) transforms its 20,000 square foot building into a cursed and haunted castle of multiple performance spaces for an immersive, ninety-minute production of William Shakespeare's The Tragedie of Macbeth. Directed by Kenn Sabberton, formerly of the Royal Shakespeare Company, the show plays Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons October 20 through November 3. Tickets start at $39 and are available now.

In SCLA's production of The Tragedie of Macbeth, nine actors perform all the roles. They guide audience members from the Witches Heath, down the haunted hallways of Macbeth's castle, and to the unsuspecting Macduff family's peaceful home. Audiences pay a visit to the lair of the "double trouble" witches brewing around their cauldron and finally witness a fateful battle where a confrontation between rival adversaries pitches good against evil.

The 360-degree performance ranges through five separate locations staged throughout SCLA's Downtown LA facility, located on the corner of 1st Street and Bixel. To maximize suspense and intimacy, the number of audience members per performance is limited.

The production is designed by Chris Runco, former Disney Imagineer and one-time design team member of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. The soundscape is by Drew Dalzell of Diablo Sound, sound designer for Universal Studio's Hollywood Horror Nights. Costumes are by multiple award-winning designer A. Jeffrey Schoenberg. Lights are by Ann Slote. The scenery, lights, sound are being constructed and installed by Shakespeare Center's team of theatrical technicians who are part of the Center's nationally acclaimed Veterans in Art program.

"I've been dreaming about creating a Downtown LA Shakespeare Halloween tradition since our company began producing Downtown thirty-two years ago," said company Artistic Director Ben Donenberg, "We now have a production that will take this idea to new level and contribute to our Downtown fall cultural landscape in a thrilling and chilling way."

The Tragedie of Macbeth: An Immersive Experience has 8 public performances October 20-November 3. Two performances on Saturdays and one matinee on Sundays. Performances will take place at The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles' Downtown Building at 1238 W. 1st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90026 (at the corner of 1st and Bixel). Tickets for public performances are available at www.shakespearecenter.org/macbeth Tickets start at $39.

Paid self-park parking lots can be found on Beaudry on the corners of 1st Street, one-block from The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles.

Free student matinee performances for middle school and high school students are available October 23rd - November 2nd, Tuesday-Friday. To reserve student tickets contact Marina Oliva at (213) 481-2273 x15 or marina@shakespearecenter.org

The public is invited to get special tickets to The Shakespeare Center's Ghoulish Glamour Gala on October 27th. Tickets are $99 and include entry to the party at 8:30PM and a ticket to either the 7PM or 10PM performance of The Tragedie of Macbeth. The party includes Horror d'oeuvres, scary good spirits, and spooky music. Special prizes will be given out for the best Lady Macbeth and Banquo's Ghost costumes. Gala tickets and additional contributions from the event support The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles Will Power to Schools program, including funding free tickets for 1,200 high school & middle school students to see Shakespeare's Macbeth for the first time.

The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles has over 30 years of award-winning history in Los Angeles. This past June, The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles produced Henry IV with Harry Groener, Tom Hanks, Hamish Linklater, Joe Morton and Rondi Reed at The Japanese Garden on the West Los Angeles VA Campus. The theatre, set and other production elements were built by a veteran workforce. SCLA offers outreach programs such as Will Power to Youth, an employment and enrichment program that combines hands-on artistic experience with paid job training, specifically created to provide an arts immersion for at-risk youth; Will Power to Schools, a program providing free tickets to students to see Shakespeare as well as professional teacher training; and Veterans In Art, which provides employment, training and educational opportunities for underemployed military veterans.
