The Pleasure Project, written and performed by Ava Bogle, will be returning to Lyric Hyperion Theatre in Los Angeles for two performances only in July. The show had its World Premiere last year at Rogue Machine Theatre as part of Hollywood Fringe Festival. There it received The Encore! Producer's Award. In February 2018, it made its Australian debut at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Described as "The love child of The Vagina Monologues and Mars Attacks!", The Pleasure Project tells the story of five aliens preparing to leave earth in light of an impending nuclear war who pose the question, can the clitoris save humanity? The hilarious and irreverent multi-media production combines film, dance, music, lip-syncing, and donut holes.
"Women are constantly sent the message that our bodies aren't our own and that we don't have the same right to enjoy sex as men do," says writer/performer Ava Bogle. "My mission with The Pleasure Project is to embolden women to take sexual agency and to inspire them to realize how powerful they are when they do."
In the time of #metoo, The Pleasure Project seeks to raise awareness for and work to combat a culture that shames women for their sexual and reproductive choices. The aliens in the show celebrate female sexual empowerment as something not only positive for women, but that could literally save the world.
