SALLY KELLERMAN TO PLAY PURPLE ROOM, PALM SPRINGS, JAN. 15-17

Sally Kellerman, the Oscar-nominated "Hot Lips" Houlihan of the original Robert Altman film "M*A*S*H," will bring her acclaimed show, "A Little Jazz, a Little Blues, a Little Rock and Roll" to the Purple Room in Palm Springs for a special weekend engagement on Fri-Sat, Jan. 15-16 at 7:00 PM. and Sun, Jan. 17 at 1:00 PM.

The show is a celebration of her 40-year cabaret career, from early years at Reno Sweeney in Greenwich Village up to recent performances in New York, L.A. and San Francisco.

Don Heckman, reviewing her in the L.A. Times, wrote: "Kellerman has established herself as a first-rate jazz and blues-tinged vocalist. Her performances are all utterly mesmerizing, overflowing with humor, atmosphere and musicality. She just keeps getting better and better and is one of the true originals."

Kellerman has starred in more than 50 films and countless TV shows and even hosted "Saturday Night Live". She currently has a recurring role on Marc Maron's IFC comedy series "Maron," and was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for her guest appearances this past season on "The Young and the Restless". In addition to "M*A*S*H," her classic films include "Brewster McCloud," "Welcome to L.A.," "Last of the Red Hot Lovers," "Big Blonde," "A Little Romance," "Lost Horizon," "Boris and Natasha," "Ready to Wear (Pret-a-Porter)" and "Back to School".

Her distinctive, husky voice has been heard on hundreds of commercials (most famously Hidden Valley Ranch) and she recorded a duet with Ella Fitzgerald's son, Ray Brown Jr., for his album "Friends and Family". Her own classic album, "Roll With the Feelin'", was recently reissued by Geffen Records and was followed by the acclaimed CD, "Sally." Her saucy memoir "Read My Lips," is currently in bookstores.

Broadway World's Stephen Sorokoff, reviewing her show at New York's 54 Below, wrote "WOW, what a (S) M*A*S*H! She's a force of nature, a musical, physical aphrodisiac...a vocal style that totally captivates and moves you as she travels through her wonderful song list."

Critic Rex Reed, reviewing her at Feinstein's, noted "she has a lusty, suggestive way with both lyrics and words that defies the passing of time. She hasn't changed a bit since her giddy role as 'Hot Lips' in Robert Altman's 'MASH' made the world drool back in 1970. She is still, to put it bluntly, a goddamn knockout...she sings with so much self-assurance and such a passion for music that she can switch effortlessly in style and tempo from the raucous pop-rock of the Pointer Sisters to the navy-blue jazz phrasing of Billie Holiday with the snap of a finger. Doing what she loves and loving what she's doing, Sally Kellerman is a blast of West Coast vitamin C."

Ed Martel will be Kellerman's music director. The Purple Room is located at 1900 E. Palm Canyon Dr. in Palm Springs. The phone is 760-322-4422.
