Actor Darryl Maximilian Robinson ( Los Angeles-based theatre artist and Founder, Artistic Director And Producer of The Excaliber Shakespeare Company of Chicago ) and Actor John Ruskin ( Founder and Authorized Instructor of The Meisner Technique at The Ruskin School of Acting in Santa Monica ) were the guests Monday Septemper 19th on THE ACTOR'S CHOICE, the informational arts program hosted by noted entertainment and performing arts journalist Ron Brewington and which is currently streaming on Youtube.com.
Since 1986 Mr. Ruskin has served as Founder and Artistic Director of the famed Ruskin School of Acting and The Ruskin Theatre Group in Santa Monica, Ca. The school has earned a reputation of having acting classes like no other in Los Angeles. Noted actors Sir Anthony Hopkins, Dylan McDermott, Brenda Vaccaro, John Finn, Ed Asner, Paul Sand and many others teach regularly and the school.
Ruskin is very proud of what he began.
"The success of the school, I think, has been the work, the teachings of Sandford Meisner, and then the students," said Ruskin. "We are blessed with some of the most talented, dedicated, passionate actors that I have ever worked with in my life."
Chicago-born and raised Joseph Jefferson Citation Award Winner and four-time Black Theatre Alliance / Ira Aldridge Award Nominee Robinson is a veteran stage actor, play director, theatre producer, private acting coach and emerging screenwriter who has been involved in more than 250 theatrical, literary arts and performing arts presentations around the country during his 42-year-long stage career.
The former Windy City resident and current Los Angeles-based stage performer is best known for his award-winning work with the multiracial, non-Equity professional chamber theatre, The Excaliber Shakespeare Company of Chicago.
Mr. Robinson spoke of his beginnings growing up as a young actor on the west side of Chicago, his passion for musical theatre and the language of William Shakespeare, and the roles he has been delighted to play onstage in Los Angeles."Theatre actors in LA are a lot better than we are given credit for," says Robinson. "It's because everyone thinks that when you come to LA, that you are rushing to get onscreen, that you are rushing to get on television."
Robinson can be seen this fall appearing as the great Broadway impresario extraordinaire Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr. in the new Conundrum Theatre Company revival production of the classic Tony Award-nominated musical FUNNY GIRL.
