Rediscover these classic tunes in MainStreet Theatre Company's production of Schoolhouse Rock Live! opening October 6th and running through October 27th. MainStreet Theatre Company's 21st Century spin to the iconic 1970's animated television series with the same name is sure to be a rockin' good time! Tickets are priced at $18.00 for General admission, and $16.00 for Seniors and Youth up to age 12.
MainStreet is excited to celebrate the joy of learning in this 60-minute show, which weaves 14 of the series' most popular songs into a story about a teacher getting ready for the first day of school. MainStreet's production is set in 2018, where television is no longer confined to a box in the living room, but is available on all sorts of personal devices, which is reflected in the imaginative design. A whole new generation will discover the joy of math, grammar and social studies in the clever, tuneful songs, helped along by a variety of projected images that will help set the mood. This fast-paced musical will have parents singing along to songs they remember from their own childhoods, and is perfect to be shared with the entire family!
Director/Choreographer Art Manke is a nationally recognized director of classics, musicals and new work, who is the recipient of five Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards. His work has been seen at The Pasadena Playhouse, South Coast Repertory, Denver Center Theatre Company, Mark Taper Forum, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, and American Players Theatre among others. He'll bring the many musical numbers to life with the help of the charming and energetic cast, which includes Tesiana Elie as the teacher, and Tommy Beck, Chelsea Martin, Jane Noseworthy, Sergi Robles and Rachel Sorsa playing different parts of her personality. Janice Rodgers Wainwright is the Musical Director and will also lead the show's live band at each performance.
The show's creative team is a venerable "who's who" of award winning Los Angeles theatre artists, including Tom Buderwitz (Scenic Design), Angela Calin (Costume Design), Josh Epstein (Lighting Design), Cricket Myers (Sound Design), Sean Cawelti (Projection Design), and Akeime Mitterlehner (Prop Design). Linda M. Tross is Production Stage Manager.
Schoolhouse Rock Live! runs Saturdays at 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm (no 1:00 pm performance October 6th) and Sundays at 1:00 pm. The Playhouse also runs special weekday matinees for school children. Specially priced
$10.00 tickets are available for Foundation Family Saturday performance on October 6th. Foundation Family Flex pack tickets are just $12.00 if purchased in quantities of four or more for the same performance and are available for all MainStreet Theatre Company productions.
During the run of Schoolhouse Rock Live!, families are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities to interact more with the story through fun activities tied to the theme of the show. Every public performance will include pre- show activities and lobby displays, and children can meet the cast in the lobby for autographs after the show. There will also be a short "talk-back" after the performance on Sunday, October 14th.
MainStreet Theatre Company, included in American Theatre Magazine's 2016 list of "20 Theatres you should take your kids to," has been the resident Equity Company at the Lewis Family Playhouse since 2006, and is known for producing high quality and innovative productions of plays and musicals for the whole family.
An intimate, 560-seat venue, Lewis Family Playhouse is the crown jewel of the three-acre, 89,000-square-foot Victoria Gardens Cultural Center. The complex at 12505 Cultural Center Drive and is conveniently located off the I-15 at Foothill Boulevard, as a major anchor of Victoria Gardens with free parking available. The Box Office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
