Rubicon Theatre Company is expanding its reach into several Ventura County communities as it plays host to 150 children and family members from surrounding areas.
On November 29th, The Angel Heart Foundation and Marion Witte are sponsoring an afternoon of activities at Rubicon Theatre for families who have not previously been exposed to a live-theatre production. The event will include a matinee production of A RUBICON FAMILY CHRISTMAS, photos with Santa, Frosty and Rudolph, snacks and refreshments as well as a personalized gift bag for each child.
The Angel Heart Foundation has partnered with Kids and Families Together, another non-profit organization, to extend invitations to families and children who they believe would benefit from the event.
Witte's concept behind the day is based on her statement that "Often during the holiday season, we focus on the giving of material items. While this is important to children, I believe that feeding their spirit is an equally valuable gift. Productions like A RUBICON FAMILY CHRISTMAS do just that, and I am honored to be part of this project."
David Friedlander, President and CEO of Kids & Families Together, states "Thanks to the wonderful work of Rubicon Theatre and the generosity of Marion Witte and The Angel Heart Foundation, we will be able to provide an incredible experience to 150 family members, most of whom have never been to a live theater performance. The families will be coming from Santa Paula, Fillmore, Camarillo, Oxnard and Ventura for a fun-filled afternoon of activities."
Rubicon is offering fun for all ages this Holiday season with two festive musicals, a "late night comedy cabaret," a Benefit for the Micheline Sakharoff Fund for Women Artists, a Holiday Festival Boutique, a photo backdrop complete with Santa Claus and activities involving holiday story time and Dickensian Carolers. Shows include A RUBICON FAMILY CHRISTMAS directed by BrIan McDonald, starring Broadway stars from Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon and Rent along with a chorus of talented young singers; the World Premiere of LITTLE MISS SCROOGE conceived by Tony-nominated Paul Gordon, directed by Sam Caird and Tony and Olivier Award-winner John Caird; and THE SANTALAND DIARIES written by NPR humorist David Sedaris, performed by BrIan McDonald.
