WHO: Rubicon Theatre Company continues its 2010-2011 Season with the World Premiere of LONESOME TRAVELER, a musical event that takes audiences on a journey down the rivers and streams of American Folk Music - from the hills of Appalachia to the nightclubs of New York and San Francisco; from the 1920s to the 1960s. Written and directed by Rubicon Theatre Company's Artistic Director James O'Neil, with Musical Direction and Arrangements by Dan Wheetman, LONESOME TRAVELER stars Justine Bennett, Tracy Nicole Chapman, Sylvie Davidson, Justin Flagg, Brendan Willing James, Anthony Manough, Nicholas and Mongiardo-Cooper with musicians James Webb and Trevor Wheetman. Scenic and lighting design by Thomas S. Giamario, multimedia design by Dave Mickey, sound design by Jonathan Burke and Costume Design by Pamela Shaw.
WHAT: The story follows "the history that made music and the music that made history," offering musical portraits of such folk immortals as Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, The Carter Family, Leadbelly, Cisco Houston, The Almanac Singers, The Weavers, Ronnie Gilbert, Peter Paul & Mary and many others whose music and influence changed American music -- and America itself -- forever. Songs include "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," "This Land is Your Land," "Deportee," "Talkin' Union," "Goodnight Irene," "Puff, the Magic Dragon," "Mr. Tambourine Man," "We Shall Overcome," "Jamaica Farewell," "Tzena, Tzena, Tzena" and "Maggie's Farm."
HOW MUCH: $49 - $69 for regular tickets; gala is $150 and includes a tax-deductable donation to Rubicon. Student tickets are $25; student groups are $15 (12 or more). Discounts available for other groups as well based on size - call box office for assistance.
