Rubicon Theatre Company Announces Three Acting Workshops With Teacher Joseph Fuqua ImageRubicon Theatre Director of Education and Outreach Beverly Ward announced today that Ventura actor Joseph Fuqua will teach three one-day workshops at Rubicon Theatre Company in November, 2018. Mr. Fuqua is a Yale-trained performer with decades of professional theatre experience and is also a Company Member at Rubicon, where he has performed in more than 20 productions.

The three classes are as follows: The Actor at the Audition (November 10, 12:30 - 5:30 pm), The Actor as Detective (November 11, 12:30 - 5:30 pm), and The Actor and his Props (November 17, 12:30 - 5:30 pm). Classes are offered to aspiring young artists ages 15-to-25. Fuqua is the creator and director of Rubicon's "Fearless Shakespeare" Summer Youth Program. He is known for bringing humor and enthusiasm to his teaching and for creating an empowering environment for young artists.

In The Actor at the Audition, actors are given an initial assessment and then coached based on their individual attributes. Artists should select and memorize a monologue for the workshop prior to the scheduled date. Cold readings and other aspects of the audition process are also to be discussed and explored. This workshop may be particularly useful to rising seniors who are preparing college auditions. All levels of experience are welcome.

In The Actor as Detective, actors learn about how to approach a script and develop various tools to help them fully realize a character. Scenes and scene partners are assigned at the beginning of the class. Participation in this workshop requires prior acting experience.

The Actor and his Props is a unique workshop for the experienced actor who is looking to explore and deepen their character development through the use of props.

Each of the workshops is five hours, with ample time for discussion and exploration in a safe and encouraging environment. The fee for each workshop is $125, and advance registration is required. Students enrolling in two or more of the workshops receive a 20% discount off the total tuition.

About the Instructor - Joseph Fuqua has been a professional actor for twenty years having graduated from the M.F.A. program at Yale School of Drama where he studied acting with the legendary Earle Gister. Before Yale, Mr. Fuqua also attended many schools and university programs including studies at James Madison University (Communications and Costume Design), S.U.N.Y. Purchase (Voice and Acting), University of London: Birkbreck College (Architecture and Theatre), Rhode Island School of Design (Architecture and Fine Arts), as well as master classes at H.B. Studios with Uta Hagen, (Author of "Respect for Acting" and "Creating a Role").

Rubicon is Ventura's premiere professional not-for-profit theatre company. The theatre is located at 1006 E. Main Street, Ventura, CA 93001 (the corner of Main and Laurel). To sign-up for the workshops, call (805) 667-2900 or go to www.rubicontheatre.org.
