The Road Theatre Company and Taylor Gilbert, Founder/Artistic Director, together with Sam Anderson, Artistic Director, present the second show of its 2017-2018 season, the west coast premiere of A DELICATE SHIP, written by acclaimed playwright Anna Ziegler (Actually) and directed by Andre Barron (Edward Albee's The Play About the Baby).
A DELICATE SHIP will begin previews on Saturday, January 13 at 8pm; will open on Friday, January 19 at 8pm and run through Sunday, March 11 at the Road Theatre on Magnolia, located in The NoHo Senior Arts Colony, 10747 Magnolia Blvd. in North Hollywood.
A haunting love triangle triggers an unexpected chain of events in this poetic play. In the early stages of a new relationship, Sarah and Sam are lovers happily discovering each other. Sarah and Nate know everything about each other, best of friends since childhood and Maybe something more. But when Nate shows up unannounced on Sarah's doorstep, she's left questioning what and who she wants in this humorous and heartbreaking look at love, memory, and the decisions that alter the course of our lives.
Anna Ziegler (Playwright) is an award-winning playwright whose play Photograph 51won London's 2016 WhatsOnStage award for Best New Play. It has also been selected as a "Best of the Year" play by The Washington Post (twice) and The Telegraph. Her play BOY was nominated for the 2016 John Gassner Award by the Outer Critics Circle. In 2017, The Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Manhattan Theatre Club and The Geffen Playhouse recently presented the co-world-premiere of her latest play Actually resulting in seven LA Stage Alliance Ovation nominations including Original Playwrighting & Best Production and The Roundabout Theatre Company will produce the N.Y. premiere of The Last Match. Her work has been produced on the West End (Photograph 51, in which Nicole Kidman starred) and at The Old Globe, Seattle Repertory Theatre, The Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Magic Theatre, Playwrights Realm, City Theatre, and many more, and developed at the Sundance Theatre Lab, The O'Neill Playwrights Conference, NY Stage & Film, Soho Rep and the Cape Cod Theatre Project, amongst others. Anna is also at work on a television series for HBO and another for AMC/Sundance, and a screenplay for Scott Free Productions. ANDRE BARRON (Director) is an award winning director who recently received Broadway World's 2016 Best Direction Award for Edward Albee's The Play About The Baby (Critic's Choice, LA Times) at The Road Theatre Company. Other Acclaimed productions there include: West Coast Premiere Broken Fences (NAACP Nomination) by Steven Simoncic, LA Premiere The Other Place by Sharr White (Critic's Choice, LA Times), West Coast Premiere Little Children Dream Of God (13 Broadway World 2017 Nominations) by Jeff Augustin and L.A. Premiere; Things Being What They Are by Wendy MacLeod as resident director at The Road Theatre Company. Barron has directed extensively in Los Angeles theatre and abroad.
